UN and the Government of Tajikistan reviewed jointly results achieved through the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework in 2024

The United Nations Country Team and the Government of Republic of Tajikistan successfully held a Joint Steering Committee (JSC) meeting to review the annual performance of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the results achieved together in 2024.

The meeting convened the key government ministries and entities, along with UN agencies jointly implementing the UNSDCF in Tajikistan. This annual meeting aimed to present and review the UN Annual Results Report for 2024, to reflect on collective achievements and to identify priorities for 2025.
H.E. Zavqi Zavqizoda, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic Tajikistan provided an overview of the progress in the socio-economic development of the Republic of Tajikistan, highlighting the challenges faced and opportunities for growth. He emphasized the roles of state organizations, UN agencies, and other development partners in achieving the national development priorities of the Republic of Tajikistan. He further mentioned the ongoing evaluation of the Mid-term Development Programme 2021-2025 and urged all partners to contribute actively to the development of the new National Development Programme 2026-2030.

Ms. Parvathy Ramaswami, UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan welcomed all partners and mentioned that this important event celebrates the cooperation and strategic partnership between the UN and the Republic of Tajikistan. She added: “The United Nations will continue to work closely with the national institutions, civil society organizations, and the people of Tajikistan, creating opportunities to shape and steer their green, inclusive and sustainable future.”
During the meeting, representatives of UN Agencies, Co-Chairs of the UNSDCF Result Groups presented major achievements of the four Outcome - inclusive human development, sustainable, inclusive, and green economic growth, integrated management of climate and environmental risk, and people-centered governance and rule of law. The UN and the government partners jointly delivered the results through the implementation of programmes amounting to USD $76 million across all four Outcomes. The Joint Steering Committee members acknowledged that in the evolving geo-political landscape and financial constraints, they will prioritize joint programme development and resource mobilization.

The Joint Steering Committee reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen the cooperation and collaboration between the UN Agencies and state counterparts to advance progress towards achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to ensure effective implementation of the UNSDCF (2023-2026).
The UNSDCF is an overarching document of cooperation between the UN and the Government of Tajikistan to support of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda), national priorities reflected in the National Development Strategy 2016-2030 and Mid-term development programmes. UNSDCF is built on the successes of previous development assistance frameworks but shifted approach from assistance to cooperation. It represents a joint commitment to work together with country partners for the achievement of Tajikistan priorities and advancement of the SDGs. The transformational changes from cooperation are expected to contribute toward human capital development, sustainable, green economic growth and the creation of decent jobs, addressing climate change and environmental challenges and building resilience, human rights, more effective and accountable public institutions and delivery of essential social services, and stronger social inclusion and coherence.
