Qualified Translator

• Performing professional written and oral interpretation and translation activities according to supervisor’s specialisation (e.g. Medical Doctor, Nursing Activity Manager, Mental Health), ensuring medical confidentiality, neutrality and respect towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions and MSF staff.
• Performing administrative tasks required by supervisor (arrangement of meetings, minute taking, and follow-up for patient care). Providing necessary feedback to supervisor following discussions and negotiations. Assisting with report writing (MSF and Government required reports), ensuring that all meeting minutes are recorded and that translated documents are properly filed
• Depending on the supervisor’s specialisation and the needs of the respective department, establishing and maintaining professional contacts with relevant authorities and communicating MSF’s messages to MoH counterparts and authorities (specifically related to patient care);
• Ensuring that supervisor is aware of cultural nuances when dealing with MoH authorities and counterparts to ensure a good working relationship. Educating supervisor on effective methods of culturally sensitive communication and informing international staff about local customs, tradition, etc. that will help in better communication and understanding of the context.
• Immediately informing supervisor of any problems that might be linked to individual behaviour (counterproductive and/or culturally insensitivity) and declaring any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement).
• Upholding MSF’s core principles, values, quality standards and Code of Conduct. Respecting MSF’s identification materials and not abusing their use aside from their intended purposes.
• Observing security rules and regulations, NOT putting self and others in danger. Promoting and maintaining MSF quality standards.

Zero TB cities/coalition embraces comprehensive approach aiming at eliminating tuberculosis in geographically contained area = creating “islands of elimination”.   It is unique approach engaging various stakeholders including local community in “search, treat, prevent and educate strategy”. Zero TB focuses on case finding, early TB diagnosis and treatment, and TB prevention and care in households, the places where people seek care and where they work. MSF is introducing this comprehensive approach in Kulob District to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis

As part of the Kulob Zero TB project the qualified translator will assist the staff to ensure smooth and good communication between international and locally recruited staff, and with partners/patients. The translators will be accompanying the team to the field when needed.

• Act as translator (English to Tajik and Russian and vice versa) for staff (international and locally recruited)
• Translator will work in schedule with each department i.e. PMR, Lab, MDs, Nursing, Patient Support, Health Promotion.
• Join meetings conducted between MSF staff and partner organisations and NTP and provide accurate and objective translations
• Medical verbal translations for trainings conducted for MSF team and partners like MOH/NTP/NGO
• Support with translations of medical bills and certificates when requested
• Support a temporary position of anthropologist
• Translate documents and data collection tools as requested by PMR/Medical Managers
• Participate in the recruitment process when requested by HR and PMR/tMedical Managers
• Ensure confidentiality of all translations – verbal and written

• Higher education (bachelor’s degree in social sciences would be an asset)
• Professional training in translating

• Essential at least two years previous working experience. Desirable in MSF or other NGOs
• Experience in written and oral translations and performing administrative tasks
• Desirable: experience with qualitative data collection 

• English, Tajik and Russian essential
• Desirable: Uzbek

• Good computer skills (MS word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

• Empathetic, non-judgemental, and objective
• Ability to communicate effectively and establish a strong rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
