Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international enterprise for cooperation and sustainable development, owned by the German Federal Government and active in 120 countries worldwide. On behalf of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, GIZ has been working in Tajikistan since 1995.
The Multi-Donor Action “Green Transition through the Cotton Value Chain in Tajikistan” is jointly co-financed by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ via a separate output of the BMZ project “Integrative and Climate-sensitive Land Use in Central Asia (ILUCA)”. The duration of this Action is scheduled from 01.03.2025 to 28.02.2030 (60 months). The Specific Objectives of the Action are to boost agroecological and sustainable production methods in cotton-based farm systems within a landscapes approach and to support the development in sustainable cotton processing. The Action pursues the vision of a green transition through the cotton value chain in Tajikistan, reducing poverty and increasing the resilience of the cotton sector in the long-term.
The project are inviting applicants for the following vacant position:
Advisor for Sustainable Cotton (Band 4)
The contract duration is one year with possibility for extension. The position is based in Dushanbe.
General responsibilities
The Advisor is responsible for:
- contributing to the planning, conceptualisation and monitoring of outputs 1.2. and 2.1. in close coordination with the international Advisor for land use and sustainable cotton production
- advising partners, implementors, service providers and target groups on sustainable production in cotton-based farm systems, land use and climate change
- monitoring of service contracts and grant agreements with implementing partners in the RSO and the Khatlon region
- proactively contributing to strategy development
- contributing to reporting, M&E and communication and visibility tasks in the team
- keeping abreast with new developments, technical and organizational innovations and contributing to knowledge management and effective coordination in the project
- cooperating actively with the other components of the project and other GIZ programmes and partner institutions where appropriate
- In close coordination with the international Advisor, the Advisor
- contributes to the development of strategies and approaches to sustainable production in cotton-based farm systems, land use and climate change
- monitors the implementation of support activities by grant agreement recipients and service providers through regular missions in the field and structured communication and reporting
- advises grant agreement recipients on strategic partnerships and organizational development
- advises project partners on possible improvements and new directions
- prepares and implements workshops, training, field missions and other local events with partners.
- contributes to planning and budgeting in outputs 1.2. and 2.1
- ensures productive work relationships with local partners and stakeholders
- works closely with team members responsible for policy dialogue, sector coordination and textile industry promotion.
- contributes to the planning and organization of official missions
- contributes to communication and visibility products
- provides documentation on approaches and results through fact sheets, concepts, notes etc.
- ensures proactive and timely reporting to management and M&E through agreed monitoring tools
- performs other duties and tasks at the request of Management
- An academic degree in economics, agriculture, environment, rural sociology or equivalent degrees
- Experience in working within international teams
Qualifications
- Fluency in Tajik, Russian, and English. Knowledge of German is an advantage
Professional experience
- 5 years of practical advisory project experience in agricultural value chains, smallholder agriculture and market-based approaches, GIZ work experience is an advantage
- A certificate in ValueLinks methodology is an asset
- Experience in climate change adaptation is an advantage
- Knowledge of BCI and organic standards are an asset
- good team player with analytical skills in a complex project setting
- self-motivated and result-oriented
- proven communication and writing skills
- proficiency in MS Office
