- BACKGROUND
Aga Khan Health Services: With community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as East Africa, and more than 200 health facilities including nine hospitals, the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private not-for-profit health care systems in the developing world. Building on the Ismaili Community's healthcare efforts in the first half of the 20th century, AKHS now provides primary healthcare and curative medical care in Afghanistan, India, Kenya, Pakistan, and Tanzania, and provides technical assistance to the government in health service delivery in Kenya, Syria, and Tajikistan.
AKHS Tajikistan is seeking an exceptional individual to fill the position, Replacement Nurse. The replacement nurse is responsible for providing holistic care for patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Performs medical procedures for patients according to the hospital approved policies and standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes, instead of nurses who are on annual sick and maternity leaves.
- MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Сonduct initial and regular patients’ assessment, implement and evaluate nursing care plans.
- Prepare and administers prescribed (orally, subcutaneously, IV) medications and appropriate record and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications.
- Initiate patient’s education plan for patients and significant others on medical and surgical procedures, managing their illness/injury, disease progress, effect of prescribed medications, post-treatment home care needs etc.
- Record patients’ nursing documentation and regularly monitor vital signs.
- Monitor and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients and interprets and records electronic displays.
- Provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical and surgical patients including care for pre- and post-surgery patients.
- Perform appropriately other related procedures such as wound dressings, catheter insertion, oxygen administration, nasogastric tube insertion, suctioning etc.
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examination and treatment of patient.
- Participate in admission and discharge planning of the patients.
- Record all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
- Transport patients to and from assigned room and assist in positioning of patients.
- Maintain and stock the level of supplies and equipment for the department.
- Follow channels of communication for effective problem solving.
- Maintains patients’ privacy and confidentiality
- Report abnormal observations and conditions of patient to the relevant physician.
- Transports specimens, cultures, blood products, and body fluids to laboratory using universal precautions.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment.
- Follow all safety rules, report all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards
- Communicate with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace
- Proactively learn and understand all AKHS policies and including Safeguarding policies and procedure.
- Stickly follow and maintain requirements of AKHS Safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Line Manager.
- QUALIFICATIONS :
Education:
- Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution
Experience:
- A minimum of 3-5 years or relevant working experience
Skills:
- Demonstrate ability to be self-directing in a health service while functioning within established policies and procedures
- Knowledge of current nursing practices with strong interpersonal skills
Technical Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English, Fluent in Tajik, and Russian
- MS Office capabilities, and medical software is an advantage
Personal Characteristics:
- Be respectful, must maintain confidentiality, well organized and proactive
- Honest, hardworking, committed to organization and a good team player
