Position Overview

The Economics Programme at UCA's Khorog campus seeks a Visiting Faculty member for Spring 2025. This one-semester appointment provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of economics education in Central Asia while working with highly motivated students. While scholars from all economics specializations are encouraged to apply, we have a particular interest in candidates with expertise in Macroeconomics and Finance. The position offers flexibility with the possibility of remote teaching, though preference will be given to candidates who can teach in person at our Khorog campus.

Key Responsibilities

As a Visiting Faculty member, you will play a vital role in shaping our students' understanding of economics through engaging classroom instruction and mentorship. Teaching at least two undergraduate courses during the spring semester, you will have the freedom to design and deliver courses aligned with your expertise. Our small class sizes enable you to provide individualized attention to each student, ensuring they thoroughly grasp and can apply economic concepts. Beyond classroom instruction, you will prepare course materials, conduct tutorials, supervise student projects, and evaluate student work. The position offers opportunities to mentor students and contribute to their academic and professional development while experiencing the unique cultural and intellectual environment of Central Asia.

Required Qualifications

Graduate (Masters and/or PhD) degree in Economics or related field from an internationally recognized university
Undergraduate teaching experience in Macroeconomics, Finance or related fields
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in Central Asia
Demonstrated understanding of pedagogy, i.e. developing new and interesting courses grounded in a discipline area and interdisciplinary in nature
Experience using innovative teaching methods and evaluation methodologies

Language

The language of instruction at UCA is English. Advanced Academic English is required, and knowledge of Central Asian languages (e.g. Tajik, Kyrgyz, Kazakh) and/or Russian would be an asset

Timing and Location

The position is located in Khorog, Tajikistan, a small town nestled in the picturesque Pamir mountains. Education on the Khorog campus of UCA is face-to-face, but remote teaching is possible for qualified candidates.
