Internews in Tajikistan is looking for a Project Coordinator for a short-term project (6 months) that will contribute to greater representation of women in the media and increase gender-sensitive content.
The role will provide support for the implementation of a short-term project, where Tajik media will work together with gender experts to develop and pilot ambitious, yet realistic, approaches to improve the representation of women in newsrooms and in news coverage and create a community of practice around women’s empowerment and equal representation in the media sphere.
The Project Coordinator will ensure the successful implementation of the project, including organizing and conducting various events, covering them on Internews platforms, coordinating the work of partners, preparing reports, etc. She/he will work closely with Internews’ Regional Specialist on Gender and Social Inclusion and will be the primary focal point for project partners and beneficiaries, which primarily includes representatives of local media.
Job responsibilities
• With oversight from the Country Director and Regional GESI Specialist, provide support for the organization and implementation of project activities;
• Collaborate with project team members in selecting qualified mass media outlets for grants and technical assistance supported by the project;
• Serve as the primary point of contact for each project beneficiary in the country, fostering trustful relationships with project partners, and providing specialized support to each project beneficiary;
• Identify highly qualified local and international experts on gender equality and social inclusion when necessary;
• Organize, under expert guidance, trainings, mentoring, and consultations with project beneficiaries to enhance their ability to create gender-sensitive content aligned with project objectives;
• Manage subgrants and guide beneficiaries on subgrant administration and reporting;
• Assess challenges in the media related to issues of gender equality and social inclusion;
• Coordinate the integration of a gender-sensitive approach in the work of local content producers, including the preparation of gender-sensitive content in the media through project activities;
• Together with partners, promote the ideas of gender equality and social inclusion in local media;
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with experts in the field of gender equality and social inclusion, as well as facilitate their collaboration with local media;
• Organize and conduct project events and ensure their wide coverage on Internews sites on the Internet;
• Prepare progress reports and support data collection in close collaboration with the Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist;
• Analyze project results, successes, and lessons learned in consultation with the Internews team;
• Act in accordance with Internews policies by adhering to Internews’ mission and core values;
• Other related responsibilities.
Required
• More than 3 years of successful experience working with media or development projects, preferably in the field of gender equality and social inclusion;
• Relevant university degree;
• Understanding of the problems associated with the poor representation of women in local media, as well as the lack of gender-sensitive content in the country;
• Excellent communication and presentation skills;
• Proven organizational skills;
• High motivation, and ability to work independently as well as part of an international team;
• Experience in drafting narrative reports;
• Fluency in Russian or Tajik language and working proficiency in English language.
Preferred
• Skills in preparing content, including content adapted for social networks is a plus;
