Message of Dr. Pratibha Mehta UN Resident Coordinator a.i. on #UN75 Campaign

I am delighted to launch United Nations Secretary General’s biggest global conversation campaign in Tajikistan within the 75th anniversary of the UN to be marked in 2020.

UN was founded in 1945, to support collective action to realize peace, development and human rights for all. Since that time, the world has been changed, but the founding priorities remain important. Tackling issues such as inequality, climate change, all kinds of violence that threaten achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals – our shared vision for the future will require cooperation across borders, sectors and generations.

The #UN75 global conversation initiative seeks to spark a global dialogue and action on how we can build a better world despite above-mentioned challenges. It will drive conversations in all segments of society – from classrooms to assembly rooms, from parliaments to community halls; with special emphasis on youth, girls and women and those whose voices are too often marginalized or not heard.

The wide national conversation campaign will be launched in Tajikistan to discuss and visualize what kind of future do we want for our children and grandchildren. We will reach out to young and old, women and men, entrepreneurs, farmers, public servants, parliamentarians, girls and boys in school in rural and urban areas.

Opinions gathered from the conversations would help to build a global vision for the year 2045 when the UN’s centenary will be marked. Each voice will help to increase understanding of the threats to achieve that future and to drive collective action to realize that vision.
