Booklet on Accessible Environment for Everyone
This leaflet introduces the concept of universal design and its role in creating accessible, inclusive living environments for all. It highlights how thoughtful planning and design can remove barriers and ensure that homes, public spaces, and services are usable by everyone, regardless of age, ability, or circumstance. By promoting practical solutions and inclusive standards, the leaflet aims to support communities, planners, and decision-makers in building environments that are safe, comfortable, and equitable for all members of society.
The right to an accessible environment for everyone is highlighted in international and national legislation, including the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Law on Rights of Persons with Disabilities and their Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan. The state program "Accessible Environment" was also implemented from 2021 to 2025.
The main obstacle to creating an accessible environment for everyone is a social barrier—stereotypical attitudes. Respect for human diversity and recognition of equal rights and fair opportunities for all people are key to eliminating physical and informational barriers, implementing the principles of universal design, and developing an inclusive culture in which everyone can fully participate in society.
This booklet is developed in the framework of raising awareness campaign on Accessible Environment for Everyone.
