United for better food and a brighter future
1 November 2025, Dushanbe – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), in collaboration with the Government of Tajikistan, development partners, civil society, and youth and women’s groups, jointly hosted the national celebration of World Food Day 2025 in Dushanbe.
Held under the global theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” the event aimed to raise public awareness on the urgent need to transform agrifood systems, strengthen nutrition, and enhance resilience to climate-related challenges. It also showcased the contributions of national and international partners to improving food security and promoting sustainable agriculture in Tajikistan.
The celebration opened with an interactive exhibition that engaged youth, families, and the wider public through hands-on learning and creative displays. The “80 Years of FAO” photo exhibition took participants on a visual journey through global and national milestones, highlighting the Organization’s enduring commitment to advancing food and agriculture.
The “From Seeds to Foods” pavilion celebrated Tajikistan’s traditional grains through live cooking demonstrations, seed displays, and farmer-led storytelling. Other pavilions, organized by FAO, WFP, and local partners, presented initiatives in school feeding, climate-smart agriculture, and food education. Cultural performances throughout the day reflected the rich heritage, resilience, and diversity of communities across the country.
The official ceremony featured opening remarks by representatives of the Government of Tajikistan, FAO, WFP, and development partners. Youth and community performances added a creative and inspiring dimension, underscoring the collective call for inclusive and sustainable food systems that leave no one behind.
“This World Food Day serves as a significant reminder of the vital role that agriculture plays in ensuring national food security and sustainable rural development. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to prioritize the promotion of sustainable farming practices, the preservation of agrobiodiversity, and the strengthening of food systems nationwide. Through ongoing collaboration with partners, we are advancing resilient agriculture and improving nutrition for all people in Tajikistan,” said Nigina Anvari, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan.
“World Food Day 2025 is both a moment of reflection and celebration—of our shared progress and the challenges that remain ahead. It also marks 80 years of FAO’s global service and partnership. In Tajikistan, FAO remains fully committed to promoting sustainable agriculture, improving nutrition, and building resilience through joint efforts that ensure no one is left behind,” said Aghasi Harutyunyan, FAO Representative a.i. in Tajikistan.
This year’s World Food Day celebration also marked a significant milestone – FAO’s 80th anniversary. Since its founding in 1945, FAO has been at the forefront of global efforts to end hunger, support farmers, and promote sustainable food production. The anniversary underscores the enduring importance of international cooperation and solidarity in securing a better food future for all.
Each year, World Food Day focuses on a specific theme related to agriculture, climate change, and rural development, encouraging governments, organizations, and individuals to take action toward achieving Zero Hunger and promoting a more equitable and sustainable world.
